Cem anos. S\u00e3o poucas as pessoas que tem a oportunidade de celebrar um s\u00e9culo de vida. No pr\u00f3ximo domingo esse clube de centen\u00e1rios ganhar\u00e1 um novo nome: Jean-Marie Faustin Goedefroid Havelange, ou simplesmente Jo\u00e3o Havelange. Representante do Brasil em Jogos Ol\u00edmpicos na nata\u00e7\u00e3o e no polo aqu\u00e1tico, Havelange ficou mundialmente conhecido como presidente da Fifa durante 24 anos e por ter se tornado um dos dirigentes mais poderosos de todos os tempos. Por\u00e9m, na sua juventude ele foi um dos maiores nadadores do pa\u00eds. Nascido no Rio de Janeiro em 8 de maio de 1916, ele queria ter sido jogador de futebol, tendo atuado na base do Fluminense, por\u00e9m, foi nas piscinas que se deu melhor. Na d\u00e9cada de 1930 Havelange mudou-se para S\u00e3o Paulo onde fez fama na Travessia de S\u00e3o Paulo, prova que venceu tr\u00eas vezes e que acontecia nas \u00e1guas do Rio Tiet\u00ea. Especialista em provas de fundo, o atleta conseguiu se classificar para representar o Brasil nos Jogos Ol\u00edmpicos de 1936.<\/p>\n

Nesta Olimp\u00edada o nadador passou por muitos contratempos. A viagem at\u00e9 a Alemanha feita em navio, durou cerca de 20 dias e o atleta adoeceu durante o trajeto no Oceano Atl\u00e2ntico. Debilitado o nadador n\u00e3o teve tempo de se recuperar a tempo e nadou no sacrif\u00edcio. Prova disso s\u00e3o seus resultados dentro d\u2019\u00e1gua. Nos 400m livre ele n\u00e3o conseguiu avan\u00e7ar para a final e nos 1500m livre foi o \u00faltimo colocado entre todos os participantes. Em 1952, nos Jogos de Helsinque, ele integrou a equipe brasileira do polo aqu\u00e1tico que acabou na 13\u00aa coloca\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n

Ap\u00f3s deixar as piscinas, Havelange se dedicou ao mundo da cartolagem. Foi presidente das federa\u00e7\u00f5es paulista e fluminense de nata\u00e7\u00e3o e da Confedera\u00e7\u00e3o Brasileira de Desportos (CBD), quando a entidade era a respons\u00e1vel por todo o esporte nacional. Em seguida foi eleito em 1974 presidente da Fifa, cargo que ocupou at\u00e9 1998. Entre pol\u00eamicas, esc\u00e2ndalos de corrup\u00e7\u00e3o e conquistas no mundo do futebol, ficou conhecido pela habilidade pol\u00edtica e por ter sido um dos dirigentes mais poderosos do s\u00e9culo XX.<\/p>\n

Segundo Sergio Martins, secret\u00e1rio oficial de Jo\u00e3o Havelange, o ex-presidente da Fifa esta bem de sa\u00fade e se recuperando de um problema pulmonar que o deixou no hospital por um tempo no fim do ano passado. Um homem sempre atarefado e cheio de responsabilidade, o agora centen\u00e1rio Havelange j\u00e1 tem um pr\u00f3ximo objetivo: estar presente no Maracan\u00e3, dia 5 de agosto, a cerim\u00f4nia de abertura dos Jogos Ol\u00edmpicos.<\/p>\n
