Natural da Irlanda, Steve Redmond foi a primeira pessoa a completar o “Desafio dos 7 Mares” em 2012.\u00a0 O desafio consiste\u00a0em atravessar a nado sete das mais dif\u00edceis provas de \u00e1guas abertas do mundo: Canal da Mancha (Inglaterra\/Fran\u00e7a com 34 km), Canal de Catalina (Estados Unidos com 36 km), Estreito de Gibraltar (Espanha\/Marrocos com 16 km), Canal do Norte (Irlanda do Norte\/Esc\u00f3cia com 33 km), Canal de Molokai (Estados Unidos com 42 km), Estreito de Cook (Nova Zel\u00e2ndia com 26 km) e Canal de Tsugaru (Jap\u00e3o com 20 km).<\/p>\n

Em agosto de 2009 o ex-triatleta completou o primeiro desafio. Foi no Canal da Mancha em uma longa travessia que durou 20h01min. Exatamente um ano depois ele partiu para o segundo desafio e triunfou no Canal do Norte em 17h17min de prova.\u00a0Em maio de 2011 foi a vez de Redmond completar o Estreito de Gibraltar em 5h00min e em outubro do mesmo ano atravessou a nado o Canal Catalina em 12h39min.<\/p>\n

Em fevereiro de 2012 ele fez duas travessias! A primeira no Estreito de Cook em 12h30min e poucos dias depois cruzou a nado o Canal de Molokai Channel em 22h29min. Este \u00faltimo na sua segunda tentativa.\u00a0“N\u00e3o era uma competi\u00e7\u00e3o no come\u00e7o, mas, no final, tornou-se um desafio para mostrar ao mundo o que os irlandeses podiam alcan\u00e7ar.\u00a0Foi uma batalha sangrenta”, disse\u00a0Redmond quando ganhou o pr\u00eamio do\u00a0Hall da Fama da Maratona Internacional de Nata\u00e7\u00e3o em 2017.<\/p>\n

A \u00faltima prova do desafio completada pelo o nadador foi o Canal de Tsugaru. E demorou, afinal ele s\u00f3 conseguiu conclui-la na quarta tentativa. E para nadar os 20 km no Jap\u00e3o foram necess\u00e1rias 12h45min.<\/p>\n

Ap\u00f3s completar o Desafio, Redmond tentou ser a primeira pessoa a nadar\u00a0entre a Irlanda o Pa\u00eds de Gales, uma dist\u00e2ncia de cerca de 80 km de nata\u00e7\u00e3o. Em 2013 ele abandou a prova quando come\u00e7ou a mostrar sinais de hipotermia.<\/p>\n

“Nosso principal foco e preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o sempre foram a sa\u00fade de Steve e, quando ele come\u00e7ou a mostrar sinais preocupantes de hipotermia, sentimos que, com um mergulho t\u00e3o longo \u00e0 sua frente, n\u00e3o valia o risco”, comentou\u00a0John Kearney, da equipe de apoio.<\/p>\n

“Steve nadou em alguns dos oceanos mais cansativos e sabe que tudo tem que estar certo e voc\u00ea n\u00e3o se arrisca.”, completou Kearney.\u00a0Redmond, que mora no condado de Cork com a esposa Ann e seus dois filhos, aceitou nadar a provas depois que tr\u00eas de seus irm\u00e3os se afogaram enquanto pescavam na costa sul da Irlanda.<\/p>\n

At\u00e9 hoje apenas 20 nadadores completaram o Desafio dos 7 Mares. O \u00faltimo a concluir foi o espanhol\u00a0Jorge Crivilles Villanueva, que completou a s\u00e9rie realizando o\u00a0Estreito de Cook no \u00faltimo dia 20 de janeiro.<\/p>\n

Desde 2015 Adherbal de Oliveira vem realizando as famosas travessias do Desafio dos 7 Mares visando se tornar o primeiro nadador brasileiro a concluir esse feito. Sua primeira travessia foi no Canal da Mancha onde estabeleceu um recorde nacional na prova com a marca de 8h49min em 2015.<\/p>\n

Em 2016 ele completou a travessia do Canal de Catalina e no ano seguinte a travessia do Estreito de Gibraltar. Por\u00e9m, Adherbal n\u00e3o concluiu as duas \u00faltimas travessias que realizou: a do Canal do Norte em 2018 ap\u00f3s um princ\u00edpio de hipotermia e do Canal de Molokai em 2019 ap\u00f3s ser atacado por um tubar\u00e3o.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
