No in\u00edcio da carreira chegou a trabalhar como gar\u00e7om e salva-vidas na praia para conseguir manter o treinamento e o sonho de tornar-se um atleta de alto rendimento. Em 2008 come\u00e7ou a se destacar e integrar o talentoso grupo de peitistas brasileiros que j\u00e1 contava com Felipe Fran\u00e7a, Henrique Barbosa, Felipe Lima e Eduardo Fischer.<\/p>\n<p>No ano seguinte chegou pela primeira vez a sele\u00e7\u00e3o principal disputando o Campeonato Mundial de Roma onde foi finalista nos 50m peito. Continuou duelando contra Fran\u00e7a, Barbosa e Lima por um lugar na sele\u00e7\u00e3o ol\u00edmpica, mas ficou fora do time ol\u00edmpico de Londres-2012. No Mundial de piscina curta de Doha-2014 foi flagrado com a subst\u00e2ncia hidroclorotiazida e teve suas medalhas e resultados anulados, al\u00e9m de suspenso por seis meses.<\/p>\n<p>Ap\u00f3s voltar da puni\u00e7\u00e3o por doping finalmente conseguiu se classificar para uma Olimp\u00edada. No Rio-2016 conquistou o melhor desempenho individual do Brasil na competi\u00e7\u00e3o: um quinto lugar nos 100m peito e foi sexto colocado com o revezamento o 4x100m medley. No Campeonato Pan-Pac\u00edfico em T\u00f3quio, conquistou a medalha de bronze nos 100m peito. No fim daquela temporada ainda foi finalista nos 50m peito no Campeonato Mundial de piscina curta de Hangzhou.<\/p>\n<p>No Mundial de Gwangju-2019 protagonizou ao lado de Felipe Lima o primeiro p\u00f3dio de dois brasileiros numa mesma prova em Campeonatos Mundiais de Esportes Aqu\u00e1ticos, ganhando o bronze e seu amigo a prata. Hoje\u00a0luta principalmente contra Lima pela vaga no revezamento 4x100m medley, j\u00e1 classificado aos Jogos Ol\u00edmpicos de T\u00f3quio e potencial finalista.<\/p>\n<p>Em 2019 aos 33 anos realizou um de seus grandes sonhos: disputar uma edi\u00e7\u00e3o dos Jogos Pan-Americanos.
