At\u00e9 hoje os argentinos somam apenas uma medalha de ouro em Mundiais na piscina e ela veio h\u00e1 20 anos atrav\u00e9s do grande velocista Jos\u00e9 Meolans.<\/p>\n<p>Em 2002 o nadador venceu os 50m livre no Campeonato Mundial de piscina curte em Moscou ap\u00f3s bater o recorde de campeonato na final\u00edssima da prova. Meolans abriu sua campanha com 21s48 nas eliminat\u00f3rias, avan\u00e7ando para a semifinal com o melhor tempo. Na fase seguinte melhorou um cent\u00e9simo e novamente foi o mais r\u00e1pido.<\/p>\n<p>Na final, Meolans n\u00e3o deu chance aos rivais e venceu com nova marca de campeonato: 21s36, superando o ent\u00e3o recorde que pertencia ao brit\u00e2nico Mark Foster de 21s43 desde a edi\u00e7\u00e3o de Atenas-2000. Para vencer, o argentino deixou para tr\u00e1s o pr\u00f3prio Foster que foi prata com 21s44 e o russo Alexander Popov e o ucraniano Oleksandr Volynets que dividiram a medalha de bronze com 21s55. E foi uma final de peso, j\u00e1 que ainda estavam na piscina Jason Lezak, Ashley Callus, Bartosz Kizierowski e Stefan Nystrand.<\/p>\n<p>Meolans ainda voltou ao p\u00f3dio neste Mundial para ser vice-campe\u00e3o mundial nos 100m livre, ficando a apenas dez cent\u00e9simos do australiano Ashley Callus que ficou com a medalha de ouro.
